Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Sharp knife and cutting board
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Skillet or non-stick pan
  • Spatula
  • Refrigerator

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • ½ pound lump crab meat, drained and picked over
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallots
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
  • neutral cooking oil (for pan-frying)

Instructions

  • Finely chop half the shrimp and leave the rest in small chunks. Combine the shrimp with crab meat in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the panko breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, shallots, lemon zest, smoked paprika, Old Bay Seasoning, salt, and pepper. Optionally, fold in parsley for extra freshness.
  • Gently mix until just combined—avoid overmixing, which can lead to a dense patty.
  • Form into patties (about four to five, depending on desired size) and let them chill in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes.
  • Heat a drizzle of neutral cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for about 3–4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Serve immediately on toasted buns with your favorite condiments, such as a light tartar sauce, spicy aioli, or fresh slaw.

Notes

Chilling the patties before cooking helps them hold together better. If desired, add a splash of hot sauce to the mix for an extra kick. For a healthier option, try baking or air-frying the patties at 400°F until golden brown.
