Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 8 oz linguine or spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes adjust to taste
  • 14.5 oz crushed tomatoes 1 can
  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken or seafood broth
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • 10 fresh basil leaves chopped (or 1 tsp dried basil)

To Finish

  • salt and pepper to taste
  • chopped parsley or basil for garnish

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain.
  • While pasta cooks, season shrimp with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 1 more minute.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes and broth. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add shrimp and cook for 3–4 minutes until they are pink and opaque. Do not overcook.
  • Add cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat. Add a splash of reserved pasta water if needed to loosen the sauce.
  • Stir in Parmesan cheese (if using) and fresh basil. Season with more salt or pepper if needed.
  • Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley or additional basil.

Notes

For extra depth, you can deglaze the pan with a splash of white wine before adding the tomatoes. Adjust spice by reducing or increasing chili flakes.
